Postmarked New Orleans

by Jason N.A. Smith

Sending a postcard is a small gesture that means so much more than relaying excitement about being in a foreign place. In this collection, the nearly obsolete labor of love that uses the lost art of penmanship provides historical context for the Crescent City of today.

Author and photographer Jason N.A. Smith lays the past and present as mirror images that give a glimpse of what New Orleans once was and what it has become. Antique postcards and modern photographs capture restaurants famed for their Creole cuisine, historic hotels said to hold guest both living and dead, and iconic landmarks that exemplify this most unique of American cities.
